The Name Game – Naming Your Baby

You named me...What??
Choosing a name for your little cherub should not be taken lightly. Your baby’s name will remain with him or her for the rest of his or her life (unless of course, at the age of 18 he or she so chooses to legally change it), so all through elementary and high school and beyond, he/she will be called whatever name is given at birth. Even if you child is called by a nickname, full names are recited many times throughout the school years and for a child named an unusual or too different of a name, those years can be grueling and even detrimental to his or her self esteem.
All too often today, people are searching for something in a name that makes their child stand out in a crowd…their playing the “name game” hoping to come up with something unique and different which is all well and dandy as long as your child is not going to pay the ultimate price for it. The price I’m talking about is incessive bullying and teasing. I don’t believe any parent would intentionally choose to name their child a name that may cause intense haggling from friends at school yet it happens all too often. Children as sweet as they can be can also be very cruel at times to their peers so take the time and put a lot of thought and effort into this, choose a name your child can live with.
Naming your baby is not anything that has to be rushed, you typically have a full nine months to decide so take some time to research names and their meanings, although the meanings should not be focused on as much as how it will be perceived by others. If you find you like a certain name but have reservation’s about it in any way, then by all means listen to your inner self and search out another.
There are loads of research available out there today on baby names, search out baby name books, articles on the Internet or books from your local library…just make sure you do your homework wisely before making a final decision. Studies have shown that many parents end up regretting the name they chose to give their child after it was a bit too late, not that it couldn’t be legally changed but it can be a daunting task and can be a bit traumatic for a child to go through a name change no matter how unusual the name is to begin with.

Bathing your newborn baby is not only good for keeping baby fresh and clean, it’s also a soothing method for fussy babies as well as bonding time between parent and baby. Most babies love to be bathed and as they grow, it’s becomes a fun playtime as well! Many pediatricians recommend bathing new baby 3-4 times per week but if your babies skin seems dry then reduce that to a couple of times per week. As baby grows you can increase that to every day if you want as long as baby’s skin is not drying out.
